Exploring North Atlanta’s Top Parks and Greenspaces
Whether you’re looking to take your pup for a walk, canoe along the Chattahoochee, or simply go for a relaxing hike, North Atlanta is full of greenspaces and parks to explore Georgia’s natural beauty.
Roswell, Georgia is nationally recognized for its award-winning park system. With multiple greenspaces, river access, hiking trails, and playgrounds, Roswell is the perfect place to become inspired by nature.

One of the top spots to explore is Azalea Park, located off Azalea Drive following along the Chattahoochee River. While it can get busy on weekends, there is ample parking and room to walk or hike without feeling crowded. Here you can enjoy a scenic picnic while you watch people tubing down the river. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some herons, hawks, and turtles amongst an abundance of other wildlife known to reside in this area.

Milton, Georgia also takes great pride in its rural heritage and natural beauty. In 2016, voters approved $25 million in bonds to improve and expand their greenspace. In just the last three years, Milton has acquired more than 248 acres of land. The most exciting development in the works is that of the former Milton Country Club, which is currently being transformed into trails for pedestrians and cyclists.  The plan is also set to include a playground, sand volleyball courts, small events lawn, and an open air pavilion. One of the newest spots Milton residents can explore is the Lackey Road greenspace. This addition includes a 1.5 mile loop for running, walking, or biking. The simple beauty of this area is what makes it so special. Its gravel paths, flourishing greenery, and scenic lake make the perfect backdrop for your afternoon walk.

One of the top favorite green spaces in North Atlanta is Fowler Park located in Cumming, Georgia. This park is the Rolls Royce of greenspace, with over five soccer fields, two playgrounds, a skate park, and an enormous pavilion. Whether you come for pickleball, to skateboard, or fly your kite on the massive green,  Fowler Park has a little bit of something for everyone! Even your dogs will love running around its tree-filled dog park. A greenspace that was truly made to please everyone, and it does not disappoint.

Wills Park in Alpharetta, Georgia is another popular greenspace amongst locals. With 18 holes of disc golf, eight baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a massive aquatics center, if you’re a sports enthusiast this one is for you! Here you are known to find children on scavenger hunts, adults barbequing, and spectators enjoying a horse show at the Equestrian Center.

This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the Big Creek Greenway. Stretching 26+ miles, this massive loop connects Cumming, Alpharetta, and Roswell following along Big Creek. In 2016 the City of Alpharetta partnered with Zagster, Inc to provide free bike share for Big Creek Greenway users, giving residents an easy and affordable way to explore the area. Whether by foot, bike, scooter, or roller blades, the greenway is the perfect way to take in the gorgeous nature of North Atlanta while also visiting some of the area's most desirable destinations.
